North East Communities in National Capital Continue to Suffer the Treatment of the Second Class Citizens

The Communities Outcry the Grave Concern

The North East Indian communities living in national capital outcry over the continuous treatment of second class citizens by Delhilites. North East Support Centre & Helpline will approach Delhi Government, National Commission for Human Rights and International Human Rights Commission to look into the discrimination meted out to mongoloid race communities living in Delhi.

The ongoing discrimination to North East communities and other communities whose race are similar have come to lime light once again by the incident of a young Naga girl who was refused entry to lounge bar in Greater Kailash I on June 19.

A legal notice to the lounge bar has been served to make the public apology for violating the constitutional and fundamental rights to the young Naga girl.

Sources reaching to NE Support Centre & Helpline, Ms. K. Enatoli Sema, Advocate for Naga Lawyer Guild, Delhi says, “A legal notice is served to the owners and managers of Urban Pind. Failing to respond in a week’s time, a legal action will be taken with the provision of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act 1995.”

Dr. John Dayal, Member of National Integration Council of India, poured out his anger over the continuous discrimination toward North East communities and others who look the similar. He said, “A Public Interest Legislation must be filed to amend the shop and business establishment bill to make such incident as criminal crime.”

The victims of racial and caste discrimination are those whose hailed from North East India, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Ladakis and North Bengal. The worse among them are the North East people.

These communities also suffer racial discrimination from the police forces by refusing and delaying in handling the cases. The victims had to wait for days until media intervene.

The mindset of the Delhilites toward North East communities and others who look likes them are the root cause of discrimination base on the sex, race, caste and place of birth.

To bring the issues of ongoing discrimination to the notice of the public authority and change the mindset of the people, NE Support Centre & Helpline has decided to approach National Commission for Human Rights and International Human Rights Commissions to look into the grave concern of racial discrimination.

The North East communities in Delhi expressed dissent to their political leaders for remaining silent spectators toward ongoing discrimination to their people. NE Support Centre & Helpline has appealed to all the North East Indian state Assemblies including West Bengal for the sake of North Bengal to address the issue.
